The Last Drawing of Year 1.
This marks a big day for me. I’m not really sure what to say, but tomorrow I fly home from Florida after too many days apart from my wife, and all I can think is, “I’m so glad I don’t have to do a drawing when I get home!” After 366 days (leap year!) without missing a single day, I am ready for a break.
That said, I have loved this drawing blog, literally loved every drawing and every character in ways that are hard to explain without sounding conceded. For me, once a drawing is created, it is no longer mine. It is a real character with real thoughts… like this guy (link). He has too much depth for me to think that I “created” him. These characters, that I can’t imagine ever having “not existed”, I feel like all I am doing is introducing them to YOU.
The Plan: I’ve decided to take a break, probably a short break, to clear my head before coming to an absolute conclusion. At this point, I think I will do it again. Another year. Every day, a new drawing… perhaps with a twist *hint* *hint*. I may take a week off, maybe a month. But I will post back on this blog when I start again and explain the plan. So unless you want to check back here over and over, I would subscribe by email in the space to the right if you haven’t already. That way, you’ll just get an email when I’m starting again. There is NO spam, just an email when there is a new post.
Thank you all for participating in these little bits of my life. Your comments in person, in emails, on this blog, by phone, in texts, on facebook, and social network messages have made it very fun to share all of these. I hope to share more with you soon! Have a great March! If you have any thoughts or ideas for me, please share them with me on Facebook HERE!
Same moon. Far apart.
It wasn’t until I got here that I realized my final drawings of the year would be done in Florida while I am here visiting family. I tend to dream and make plans without thinking through the practical details, so as a result, my original vision to finish the year of drawings in color and paintings, is now being washed out by the tools I have at hand here in Florida. Pens and pencils! So I’ll be drawing and posting using my cell phone camera and occasionally scanning. The last day of my year of drawings is March 3rd!
For those who have asked or are just curious in my techniques, I sometimes just take a picture of a pencil drawing with my cell phone and post directly to the blog. For some of the more complete looking drawings, I often begin in pencil (sometimes a red pencil for the rough sketch, followed by dark pencil or pen for the lines/shading), then I scan it into my computer, where I shade and/or color in Photoshop using some custom actions and a Wacom pen tablet. Other than that I have occasionally “painted” on my iPad, sometimes drawn directly in Flash using my tablet then exporting as JPG and shaded/textured in photoshop, and I have sometimes used other non-digital tools like charcoal or an ink quill pen.
Without my tablet this week, shading will be minimal or none, but I still plan to finish strong! More details on my “plan” for the future of Drawings365 to come. I’ve been thinking a lot.
